Dr. Shah has obtained the FRCS(1996) from The Royal College Of Physicians And Surgeons Of Glasgow, had commenced work as a Surgical Registrar in Surgery at South Tyneside District Hospital. the field of interest was GI and Minimally Invasive Surgery, in which during the past five years , managed to gain a wide-ranging experience not only in the UK he also trained at the European Institute of TeleSurgery(EITS) in Strasbourg,France,one of the leading centres for advanced laparoscopic surgical training in the world. During the tenure at Strasbourg, he also trained in Robotic Surgery. Have also trained at the National University Hospital(NUH),Singapore in Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery

Dr. Shah has special interest in Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgeries(SILS) and have pioneered the SILS programme at Fortis Hospitals. As part of this programme he has performed over 125 SILS including Appendicectomies, RenalSurgeries, Gyneac procedures and Hernia surgeries. He offer SILS for all patients needing Cholecystectmies and also have started doing SILS Sleeve Gastrectomy. Currently have the largest series of SILS in Bangalore.

Over the coming years he intend to concentrate on setting up a SILS and NOTES unit with complete focus on these two aspects of Minimal Access Surgery . He also interested in working on a Robotic Surgery programme for Advanced Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic procedures.

He began a Clinical attachment in Surgery at South Tyneside District Hospital on 7 November 1996, which continued till the end of March 1997. During that period he passed the FRCS from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow at the first attempt. Worked as Senior SHO(Registrar Grade) from Aug 6th 1997 to Aug 5th 1999 at South Tyneside District Hospital. During this period he ran Endoscopy sessions-both upper and lower GI:was involved in a 1:5 on call rota:was called upon to perform elective and emergency surgical procedures: and received basic and advanced Laparoscopic Surgical training both in UK and in Strasbourg at the European Institute of TeleSurgery. He also received training in Vascular Surgery during my tenure.

In the chosen field of interest i.e Laparoscopic Surgery, He managed to gain a wideranging experience and was trained to do basic and advanced Laparoscopic Surgeries including those on solid organs. He has also had the opportunity to use advanced Laparoscopic haemostatic systems and the AESOP robotic arm for advanced Laparoscopic Surgeries.
