  Summary: We reviewed the investigation protocol and follow up practice of children admitted to our unit with an acute atraumatic limp over a one year period. Twenty two children fulfilled our inclusion criteria of which 14(64%) were males and 8(36%) were females. The average
  age was 6 years (range 2-13 years). None of the patients had septic arthritis
  None were febrile on admission
  Only 1 pt had documented ESR
  45% had raised WBC, 33% had raised CRP
  2 patients had small effusions (resolved spontaneously)
  1 patient had normal MRI. We recommended a protocol(based on current literature on the
  subject) which would enable safe discharge after review with follow up arrangements to avoid unnecessary admission which would result in significant saving of resources.

• Ankle Fracture fixation, Are we fixing them quick enough?

  Summary: We determined the average time between admission and internal fixation of ankle
  fractures and it’s implication on net in patient stay.34 patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria of having an acute closed fracture of the ankle requiring open reduction and internal fixation
  (ORIF). There were 16 unilateral, 10 bimalleolar and 8 trimalleolar fractures.
  10 patients underwent surgery on the day of admission,9 patients had surgery within 24 hrs,15 patients had surgery after 24 hrs of admission.
  The average in patient stay was 9 days range (1-61 days).
  If surgery was undertaken within 24 hrs average in patient stay was 5 days range (1-14 days). If surgery was delayed beyond 24 hrs the average in patient stay was 15 days, range (3-61days).
  Conclusion: Delayed surgery of indicated closed ankle fracture prolongs hospital stay with profound cost implications. We suggested a fast track protocol a reaudit after 6 months will close the loop.

• Delayed referrals of distal radial fractures in adults

  We audited delayed referrals of distal radial fractures from A&E over a one month period.
  We then suggested guidelines to the A&E SHO’s regarding acceptability criteria following manipulation of these fractures. We re-audited referrals from A&E and found a 10% decrease in delayed referrals. We closed the audit loop and altered a change in existing practice

Being the rota manager (Top Slot SpR) for junior doctors in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Princess Alexandra Hospital has improved my skills of delegation, communication, and conflict resolution. I serve as a medium of communication between the junior medical staff and the consultants with reference to work related issues.

I am aware of the importance of information technology and its application in modern day medicine and have developed the necessary skills to use PC operating systems. I and am able to create and use databases in Access and Excel .I am proficient in the use of power point for creating presentations and I can produce digital images and can manipulate them to appear in presentations and publications using photo editing software such as Adobe Photoshop. I have experience in using the Patient Administration System and the Digital Radiology software.

Outside of work I enjoy tennis and I used to be a nationally ranked tennis player at the junior and sub-junior level in India. I continue to pursue this hobby, sadly not competitively anymore.

I plan to provide a one stop orthopaedic service with a focus on primary and revision lower limb total joint replacement at par with the best in the world.
I would like to utilise my experience in the management of acute trauma and fracture treatment to set up a trauma service in Mumbai which will provide a multi-disciplinary approach to the management of trauma as is practised in the UK.
