BREAST LIFT Surgery India

What is 'breast lift' surgery ?

Breast lift surgery or ‘mastopexy’ is the name given to the procedure which lifts and firms the breasts. It does NOT increase the size of the breasts. If you are looking to enlarge the size of your breasts then visit our section on breast augmentation (enlargement).

banner1This is usually performed to correct sagging or drooping breasts: this can happen as a result of childbirth which causes a loss in breast size as well as stretching the skin. The breasts will also start to droop due to the effects of gravity and the ageing process. Over time they lose their tone and elasticity.

It can be performed as a standalone technique or in conjunction with breast augmentation. In the latter case, this means that the breasts become firmer as well as bigger. Lifting the breasts means a return to a more youthful and shapely appearance. However, this is not a permanent affect as the ageing process cannot be held off for ever. So, you may need to repeat this surgery at a later date. There are several techniques for breast lift surgery which are based upon different types of incisions. These range from the most popular ‘anchor’ shaped incision through to the ‘doughnut’ shaped incision. Some women will require more extensive incisions whereas others will be suitable for smaller, less extensive incisions.

Mastopexy or breast lift surgery refers to a group of elective surgical operations designed to lift or change the shape of a person’s breasts. Mastopexy may involve repositioning the areola and nipple, as well as lifting the breast tissue and removing skin.

timthumbMastopexy may be performed alone, or in combination with placement of breast implants; when implants are used, the procedure is typically called breast augmentation. The change that a mastopexy affords to the position, shape and distribution of existing breast tissue is temporary, as the effects of gravity and aging continue, causing ptosis to recur over time. Breast lift surgery is cosmetic and may enhance a woman’s self-esteem, but the results will probably not match her ideal. The best candidates for the procedure are women with very small, sagging breasts who are realistic about what the surgery will accomplish. Breast lift surgery may be performed on women with larger breasts, but the effects may not last as long. Breast lift surgery may be performed on women of any age, but most plastic surgeons advise women to wait until after they have had children since additional pregnancies will usually stretch the skin again and reverse the effects of the procedure.

Procedures in India

Full breast lift : –

The full breast lift involves an incision along the crease underneath the breast, incisions around the areola, and a vertical incision between the areola and the base of the breast. This incision is sometimes called an anchor incision or inverted T. This traditional technique is widely used because it consistently produces the desired shape and position of the breast on the chest wall. In this technique, excess skin is removed, the breast is elevated and frequently, the size of the areola is reduced. This approach allows maximal change to the breast.

Modified breast lifts : –

Modified or limited breast lifts were developed to produce the intended results with less scarring. These techniques use fewer incisions. The potential drawback is that there can be less change made to the breast’s shape. Modified mastopexies are frequently done together with breast augmentation.

Side Effects

Possible complications or reactions to anesthesia. Temporary bruising, swelling, discomfort, numbness, dry breast skin. The rare side effects of bleeding and infection can cause scars to widen. Permanent and noticeable scars.

Risks

A breast lift can leave you with unevenly-positioned nipples, or a permanent loss of feeling in your nipples or breasts. Wide scars.
