GALL BLADDER SURGERY IN INDIA
The function of the gallbladder is to store bile and concentrate. Bile is a digestive liquid continually secreted by the liver. The bile emulsifies fats and neutralizes acids in partly digested food. A muscular valve in the common bile duct opens, and the bile flows from the gallbladder into the cystic duct, along the common bile duct, and into the duodenum (part of the small intestine).
Symptoms of Gallbladder disorder : –
The major symptom of gall-bladder disease is acute or intermittent epigastric pain. Indigestion, gas, a feeling of fullness after meals, constipation, nausea and disturbed vision are the other usual symptoms. Intolerance to fats, dizziness, jaundice, anaemia, acne. And other lesions may also occur. Varicose veins, hemorrhoids and break down of capillaries are also disorders associated with gall-bladder troubles.
Causes of Gall Bladder disorder : –
The association of gall-bladder disease with obesity together with their reported rarity in primitive people, living on simple diets, suggests that dietary factors playa major role in the development of this disease. The main causes of gall-bladder disorders is over nutrition caused by refined carbohydrates, especially sugar as the loss of fibre removes a natural barrier to energy intake. Over nutrition also leads to increased cholesterol secretion. Meals rich in fats may cause an attack of gall-bladder pain or gall-stone colic. Chronic constipation is a most important predisposing factor. Poor health, hereditary factors, stress, spinal displacements, bad posture and muscular tension may also cause gall-bladder disorders.
Removal of the Gallbladder in India
In some cases, the gallbladder must be removed. The surgery to remove the gallbladder is called a cholecystectomy (pronounced co-lee-sist-eck-toe-mee). In a cholecystectomy, the gallbladder is removed through a 5- to 8-inch long cut in your abdomen.
Once the gallbladder is removed, bile is delivered directly from the liver ducts to the upper part of the intestine.
Treatment for Gallbladder Cancer
The usual treatments that are now available for treating gallbladder cancer are biliary bypass, endoscopic stent and percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage. Treatment of gallbladder cancer depends directly on the progression of the disease and the health status of the inpidual. As the human body can survive without a gallbladder, doctors would suggest safe removal if possible. Where ever removal wouldn’t be the final recourse, treatments are focused on controlling the spread and growth of the cancer. The best available treatments are external and internal radiation therapy and chemotherapy. Radiosensitizers are also used in gallbladder cancer treatment.
As a preventive means, a healthy diet routine focused at maintaining a proper bowel, kidney and liver functions would help in keeping the gallbladder free of diseases. Vegetarianism has been recommended as the best method for overall prevention of gallbladder cancer. Inculcating healthy food habits and sticking to a moderate life has proved beneficial in countering all kinds of illness or disease.
With laparoscopic cholecystectomy, you may return to work more quickly, have less pain after surgery, have a shorter hospital stay, and have a shorter recovery time. Unlike traditional surgery, laparoscopic surgery to remove the gallbladder can be done without cutting the muscles of your abdomen. The incision is also much smaller and the scars are much less noticeable than those made by traditional cholecystectomy.
With laparoscopic cholecystectomy, you probably will only have to stay in the hospital overnight. With open cholecystectomy, you would need to stay in the hospital for several days. Because the incisions are smaller with laparoscopic cholecystectomy, there isn’t as much pain and discomfort after this operation as there is after open cholecystectomy.
Complications from Gallbladder removal
Complications are rare. When complications occur, they may be in the form of: bleeding, infection and injury to the duct (tube) that carries bile from your gallbladder to your stomach.
Some patients also experience diarrhea. The cause of diarrhea after gallbladder removal isn’t clear.
