Both Knee Replacement Together Surgery In India
Knee replacement is a surgical procedure that decreases pain and improves the quality of life in many patients with severe knee arthritis. Typically, patients undergo this surgery after non-operative treatments (such as activity modification, anti-inflammatory medications, or knee joint injections) have failed to provide relief of arthritic symptoms. Surgeons have performed knee replacements for over three decades, generally with excellent results; most reports
Both Knee Replacement (Bilateral) Surgery in india
Knee replacement surgery is the most common joint replacement procedure. Many people have knee arthritis , but it can be difficult to know when the right time to have a knee replacement surgery is. Furthermore, there is confusion about what to expect from knee replacement surgery.
The benefits of Same-Day-Both-Knee Surgery are that it takes you half the time to fully recover from the knee surgery. Although you are out of bed and walking on the second day after surgery and climbing stairs 5 days after surgery, it takes approximately 3 months to fully recover from this surgery and have complete freedom to do what you like.
If you are planning to do one knee surgery at a time, this means it will take (3+3) 6 months for full recovery!. Of course not everyone is fit enough for both knee surgery. But if you are a fit person, then it makes sense to have both knees operated at the same time. Most of my patients prefer both knee surgery on the same day and if they are fit I offer it to them.
Common Knee Disorders Surgery in india
Over time, the cartilage that cushions the joint can deteriorate, causing pain and stiffness, when bones rub directly against each other. Knee pain originally may be only felt when a person is bending or putting pressure on the knee (such as while walking or going up and down stairs). Eventually the pain may become more frequent or nearly constant. Pain relieving medications or walking aids may work temporarily, but the only long-term solution in many cases is knee replacement surgery.
Osteoarthritis Surgery in india
The most common type of arthritis, osteoarthritis, generally develops from “wear and tear” of the cartilage and lubricating surfaces of the bones that connect at the joint. As we age, many of us will develop degenerative arthritis of one or more of our joints. This arthritis is characterized by destruction of the natural cushioning and lubricating surfaces of the joint and may be accompanied by bony overgrowth (bone spurs). In the most severe cases, all the cartilage will have worn away and there will be bone-on-bone contact.
Avascular necrosis Surgery in india
Characterized by localized bone death, avascular necrosis results from disruption of blood flow to the bone. The bone death may be painful and usually causes the bone to collapse, which can lead to joint destruction and arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis Surgery in india
An autoimmune disorder characterized by chronic inflammation of the affected joints, rheumatoid arthritis may involve multiple joints and can occur at any age. The inflammatory process of rheumatoid arthritis swells the cartilage, muscles, tendons and ligaments, which can misshape the joints, erode the cartilage and eventually lead to destruction of bone.
Traditional total knee replacement involves a roughly 8” incision over the knee, a hospital stay of 3-5 days, and sometimes an additional stay in an inpatient rehabilitation setting before going home. The recovery period(during which the patient walks with a walker or cane) typically lasting from one to three months. The large majority of patients report substantial or complete relief of their arthritic symptoms once they have recovered from a total knee replacement.
