How Many Types of Cancer Exists?

There are various Types of Cancer that exists. The following are some of the common types of cancers and these are:

  1. Lymphoma Cancer: Lymphoma is a Type of cancer which begins in cells of the lymph system. Hodgkin lymphoma and non-Hodgkin lymphoma are the two main types of lymphoma cancer. According to the doctors, Hodgkin lymphoma can often be cured, however, the treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma depends on the specific type.

2. Bladder Cancer: Transitional cell carcinoma is the most common type of bladder cancer which is also known as urothelial carcinoma. It has been found that smoking is a major risk factor for bladder cancer. Bladder cancer is a Type of Cancer which can be diagnosed at an early stage.

3. Breast Cancer: After skin cancer, breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women. Breast cancer can be deducted at an early stage through mammograms, possibly before it has spread.

4. Colorectal Cancer: Colorectal cancer is cancer which begins as a growth called a polyp inside the colon or rectum. If your surgeon is able to find and remove the polyps then colorectal cancer can be prevented.

5. Uterine Cancer: Uterine cancers are of two types: (i) endometrial cancer which is very common and (ii) uterine sarcoma which is rare. According to the study, endometrial cancer is easy to treat and can be cured whereas uterine sarcoma cancer is more aggressive and harder to treat.

6. Kidney Cancer: Kidney cancer is a type of cancer that can develop in adults and children. The main types of kidney cancer are transitional cell cancer, renal cell cancer, and Wilms tumor. There are certain inherited conditions that can increase the risk of kidney cancer.

7. Leukemia Cancer: Leukemia is a cancer type which usually occurs in the blood cells. The type of Leukemia cancer mainly depends on the type of blood cell that become cancerous and starts growing quickly or slowly. Leukemia can occur in adults older than 55, however, it can also the most common cancer in children younger than the age of 15 years.

8. Liver and Bile duct Cancer: Liver cancer includes hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma). Risk factors for HCC include chronic infection with hepatitis B or C and cirrhosis of the liver.

9. Lung Cancer: Lung cancer is of two types (i) non-small cell lung cancer and (ii) small cell lung cancer. Usually, lung cancer occurs due to smoking; however, the study says that people who do not smoke can also deal with lung cancer.

10. Skin Cancer: Skin cancer is one of the most common Types of Cancer.  Squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma, and melanoma are the types of skin cancer. According to the study, melanoma is much less common than the other types of skin cancer, however, it is much more likely to invade nearby tissue and will also spread to other parts of the body. It has been found from the earlier studies that most deaths from skin cancer are caused by melanoma.

11. Prostate cancer: Prostate cancer is one of the most common Types of Cancer and this is also a second leading cause of death among men across the world. Prostate cancer is cancer which usually grows very slowly and treating it before symptoms occur may not improve men’s health or allow them to live longer.

12. Thyroid Cancer: The thyroid cancer is of four types and these are papillary, follicular, medullary, and anaplastic. Papillary is the most common type of thyroid cancer, however, the four types of cancer differing in how aggressive they are. According to the study, doctors can treat thyroid cancer if they are able to found the symptoms of thyroid cancer at an early stage.

How the Cancers can be Treated?

Cancer treatment has different objectives, depending on the Types of Cancer and how advanced the cancer is. These objectives include the following:

  • Finding a cure: Finding a cure for all cancers is not possible.
  • Providing primary treatment: Your surgeon will provide a primary treatment to kill the cancer cells in your body.
  • Providing adjuvant treatment: By providing an adjuvant treatment means that your surgeon will kill all the cancer cells that remain after primary treatment to reduce your risk of cancer coming back.
  • Providing palliative treatment: This means your surgeon will provide you the treatment which relieves your health symptoms that are associated with cancer such as difficulty in breathing and pain.

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells and they perform a variety of functions. These transplants will allow your surgeon to use higher doses of chemotherapy to treat cancer.

e) Immunotherapy: This is a treatment in which your surgeon will give you antibodies which help your body’s immune system to recognize cancer so it can fight it off.

f) Hormone Therapy: Your surgeon performs hormones therapy to remove or block hormones that fuel certain cancers to stop cancer cells from growing in your body.

g) Targeted Drug Therapy: This is a type of cancer treatment in which your surgeon will use drugs to interfere with certain molecules which help cancer cells grow and survive.
